Saratoga NewsVillage BriefsVilla Montalvo hosts festival The second annual New America Playwrights Festival, presented by the San José Repertory Theatre and Saratoga's Villa Montalvo, takes place Oct 25 and 26 in Montalvo's newly renovated Carriage House Theatre. The festival features the work of three award-winning individuals: Brenda Wong Aoki, Oliver Mayer and Edwin Sanchez. Aoki is a storyteller and performance artist who has appeared at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Asia Society in New York City. She will read from her play Uncle Gunjiro's Girlfriend. Oliver Mayer's recent play, Blade to the Heat, is being developed as a film by Madonna. At the festival, he will read from The Road to L.A. Sanchez will read from Icarus. The New America Playwrights Festival is the creation of Timothy Near, artistic director of the San José Repertory Theatre. Tickets are $5 per performance or $12 for a weekend pass. County parks seek volunteer The Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department seeks a volunteer trail-plan librarian to work at the department's administration office, located in Vasona Park in Los Gatos. This volunteer will work with a county parks planner to set up a network of trail information for sharing with other trail-related agencies, organizations and individuals. Applicants should be at least 18 years old and have basic library science and technology skills. The deadline to apply is Nov. 1. Library offers WWW workshops For residents interested in locating their roots using the World Wide Web, the Saratoga Community Library is offering a free workshop on "Genealogy and the Web" at 7 p.m., Wed., Oct. 22, in the library's community room. Rosanne Leeson, a retired Los Altos librarian, will offer her expertise on genealogy to the group. The program is the library's second in a series of "Wednesdays on the Web" workshops.
