Saratoga NewsCampbell, Silov star for VikesBy Dick Sparrer Lance Campbell (Los Gatos) and Ivica Silov (Los Gatos) pitched in four goals apiece to lead the West Valley Community College men's water polo team to a 15-9 win over Merced last week. Chris Spencer (Lynbrook) scored two goals, and James Rego (Los Gatos) also scored. The Vikings improved to 3-0 in the Coast Conference and to 15-3-2 for the year with the victory. The West Valley women's water polo team, meanwhile, beat Laney 17-3 to improve to 6-10 for the year. In other sports action at West Valley, Serena Delaplace (Westmont) covered the 3.0-mile distance in 19:14 at Santa Barbara City College to romp to a fifth-place finish in the Santa Barbara Invitational. The West Valley women's cross-country team ran up 59 points to finish second in the 19-team field. Orange Coast was first with 31 points, and American River was a distant third at 129. Rachel Wiseman finished eighth in 19:30 with Lisa Renteria (Westmont) 13th in 19:32, Dina Berlage 14th in 19:47, Debra Bleisch 23rd in 20:22 and Anniken Iversen 24th in 20:24. The West Valley women's volleyball team improved to 5-2 for the year with a 15-10, 15-6, 17-15 win over De Anza in the Coast Conference opener for each school. The Vikings had opened the week with a 15-3, 8-15, 15-12, 15-12 win over Ohlone. West Valley dropped a 6-1 men's soccer decision to De Anza to slide to 7-2-2 in conference play, and the women fought Cabrillo to a 2-2 tie. The Vikings are 6-3-1 in the conference and 9-3-2 for the year.
