Allen TD not enough

The De Anza Community College football team dropped a tough 38-10 decision to Fresno City College. Roderick Allen scored the lone touchdown for the Dons.

De Anza, 1-3 after the loss, had edged Hartnell 15-8 a week earlier. Mike Lueckeman hit Edmund Bae (Homestead) on an 11-yard scoring toss, and went to Jeff Kool for eight yards and another score. Jon Hotchkiss (Leigh) ran for a two-point conversion, and Dave Silverstein (Saratoga) kicked an extra point.

The Dons will visit the College of San Mateo on Oct. 26, 1 p.m.

Jaguars top Vikes

The football team at West Valley Community College was ranked. San Jose City College wasn't.

But the Jaguars still managed to rise up for a 34-22 victory over the Vikings when the two clubs met in Coast Conference play recently.

Jason Belligan, Tim Garner (Leigh) and Mike Nedney each scored touchdowns for West Valley, but it wasn't enough. The Vikings, who had been ranked No. 14 in Northern California prior to the game, slipped to 3-2 for the year.

The Vikings were coming off of a rousing 21-10 win over Santa Rosa. Nedney scored on a 45-yard pass from Matt Geske and kicked three extra points in the win. Geske hit Jimmy Wiggins for 17 yards and a TD, and Garner blasted over from the three for another touchdown.

West Valley will be on the road this week to visit Cabrillo College on Oct. 26, 7 p.m., in Aptos.

In other West Valley sports action last week, the women's soccer team battled Cañada to a scoreless tie to improve to 1-2-1 in the conference, and the women's volleyball team lost 15-8, 15-5, 15-5 to the City College of San Francisco in nonconference play.
