Softball Signups
The Los Gatos-Saratoga Girls Softball Association will hold signups for the spring 2002 season on Nov. 6 and 13, 7-9 p.m., at Fisher Middle School in Los Gatos and Nov. 14 and 15, 6-9 p.m., at the Saratoga Community Center.

Halloween Run
The annual Halloween Run returns to Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy on Oct. 27. Registration begins at 7:30 p.m. with the 5K run to begin at 8:30 a.m. and the 10K to get under way at 9 a.m. There will be awards for the best costumes.

Volleyball Tryouts
The Jumpstart Volleyball Club will hold tryouts for players ages 9-18 of all ability levels on Nov. 11 at Lynbrook High School in San Jose. Jumpstart will field competition and developmental teams.
Tryouts will be held from 10 a.m.-noon for players 12 and under; 2-4 p.m. for players 14 and under; and 6-8 p.m. for players 16 and 18 and under. The tryout fee is $25.

Youth Basketball
Elementary school students in the first through sixth grades are eligible to compete in the upcoming Saratoga Youth Basketball League sponsored by the Saratoga Recreation Department.
Games are played on Saturdays, Jan. 5 through March 16. The instructional league stresses basketball fundamentals, teamwork and sportsmanship. Players will play at least two quarters of each game.
Teams for players in the first through fourth grades will be formed by school zones. Players in the fifth and sixth grades must attend a skills assessment on Dec. 8 at Redwood Middle School to determine team placement.

Swim at club
The West Valley Swim Club offers masters team and lap swimming Monday through Friday, 6-7:30 a.m., and Saturday, 7-8:30 a.m., at Saratoga High School. The cost is $5 per swim. For more information, call 408. 395-5341.
