    Celebrate Saratoga! attracted 30,000

This year's Celebrate Saratoga! had the largest turnout ever--30,000 people--and raised the biggest profit ever for the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, said Chamber executive director Abby Krimotat.

The food and wine festival is the Chamber's main annual fundraiser and features a number of activities, culminating in an outdoor street dance. The event was put on with support from the city, residents and more than 300 volunteers.

"Everybody came together," Krimotat said. "The volunteers worked hard and everyone is still so excited we already have a chairman for next year. This year was the biggest and the best ever."

    Rec. department served 16,000

The recreation department's computer records show that about 16,000 people have used the department's programs over the past year and a half, said Joan Pisani, director of recreation for the city.

"This shows we're reaching a lot of people in Saratoga," she said, noting that the department's programs are geared toward all ages, from infants to senior citizens. "The recreation department is the only department in the city that really stays with people their entire lives."

Pisani pointed out that the popularity of the programs has caused a space problem. That may be solved soon, thanks to the inclusion of a Community Center renovation in the Parks and Recreation Commission's list of priorities (See full story).

Y2K forum may include cablecast and email

Saratogans may be able to participate in the city-sponsored panel discussion on Y2K preparedness without ever leaving home--as long as they have access to email.

The community Y2K forum will take place on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at the community center, but will be cablecast live on KSAR-TV 15.

City Manager Larry Perlin said he is tentatively planning for viewers to be able to email comments and questions to the panel members, who will have access to a laptop computer and will be able to respond immediately on air. The email address would flash on the bottom of the screen. For information about email participation, call 408.868.1267.
