Local photographer gives talk at the Saratoga Library

At their next meeting, the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries welcome photographer and writer Stacy Geiken, who speaks on Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. in the Community Room of the Saratoga Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave. Geiken, a Los Gatos resident, took all the photographs for the recently published travel guide Bay Area Backroads. He has also written articles for various publications dealing with photography, travel, music and long-distance running.

The program is free. The Friends of the Saratoga Libraries welcome guests and prospective members at their monthly meetings.

Watercolors on exhibit at Aegis Gallery

Through Nov. 21, Aegis Gallery's featured artist is Nancy DeWeese, whose watercolor exhibit carries the provocative title of Landscapes, Naked Ladies and Vegetables. A Los Gatan with a home studio in her backyard, DeWeese works predominantly in watercolors because, she says, they are inherently fluid and changing and seem to have a life of their own. Her favorite topics are still lifes, landscapes and portraits.

A reception for the artist takes place on Nov. 6 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome. The gallery is at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 2. For information, call 408.867.0171.

    Art group hosts sculpture demo

The Saratoga Contemporary Artists invite all interested members of the community to attend their November meeting, at which time Cupertino artist Elizabeth Buss will give a demonstration of her sculpture technique. Since the age of 7, Buss has been crafting figures from clay. She holds a master's of fine arts degree and has exhibited throughout the United States. She also teaches figurative sculpture classes.

The meeting takes place Nov. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Saratoga Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave. The SCA is a community organization that promotes the arts and lets artists of different levels and styles socialize, network, review each others' works and occasionally paint together. For more information, call Ann Marie Mix at 408.354.9046.
