    State library group honors newspaper

The Saratoga News received the California Association of Library Trustees and Commissioners (CALTAC) award for outstanding radio, newspaper or television coverage of the issues concerning a public library.

The city's Library Commission unanimously agreed to nominate the newspaper because of its coverage of Saratoga Library news.

Commission members said they believe that public awareness of the library's needed expansion and renovation was raised because of the newspaper's coverage.

"It was a no-brainer," said commission chairwoman Marcia Manzo, who first suggested nominating the newspaper. "The paper has done an incredible job in covering the history of the expansion," she said.

Manzo chose six from the more than 50 articles on the library that have appeared in the Saratoga News in the last three years to submit for CALTAC's review.

    Commission seats are now vacant

The City Council is still seeking citizens to fill slots on the Parks and Recreation and Finance commissions. There are four upcoming vacancies on both commissions.

The application deadline was extended to Nov. 10 at 5 p.m., and interviews with the City Council will be on Nov. 17.

Applicants are required to attend a commission meeting before their interviews. The next Parks and Recreation Commission meeting is Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. The next Finance Commission meeting is Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

Any resident of Saratoga age 18 or over may obtain an application for either commission from City Hall during business hours. Contact the City Clerk at 408.868.1269.

    Meeting seeks input on traffic

The Community Development Department is updating the circulation and scenic highway element of the city's General Plan, in order to assess traffic conditions and develop a goals and policies document to address any changed conditions.

A second community workshop to solicit public input and participation in developing the document will be held on Nov. 6 at 9:30 a.m. at the Community Center.
