    High School Heisman

Most football fans are aware that the Heisman Trophy is presented each year to the outstanding college football player in the nation.

But high school athletes compete for a Heisman award, too. And Joanna Choi and Warren Wong of Saratoga are in the running for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award.

The award, established in 1994 by Wendy's Restaurants, honors top senior scholar-citizen-athletes across the country who have achieved excellence in academics, community involvement and athletics. This year, more than 12,000 athletes nationwide have been nominated for the prestigious award.

The field will be narrowed to 102 state finalists (including the District of Columbia) and then to 12 national finalists before national winners will be announced in December.

    Anderson runs for Linfield College

Luke Anderson of Saratoga is a freshman competing for the men's cross country team at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. Anderson is a graduate of Saratoga High.

Run for the Law, a 5K walk and 10K run, will be held Nov. 7 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the West Valley Courthouse, 14205 Capri Drive in Los Gatos.

The entry fee is $15 in advance or $20 on the day of the event. The race will also feature a special corporate challenge.

The courthouse is on the corner of Capri and Knowles, one block north of Winchester between Los Gatos and Campbell.

    Roller Derby

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. event are priced at $15 for track side, $12 for adults, $10 for students and $7 for children, and are available at all BASS outlets, the San Jose Box Office and at Mt. Pleasant. For more information, call 408.292.7783.
