Saratoga News Sports Briefs Youth Basketball Registration is currently under way for boys and girls in grades 3-6 interested in playing youth basketball. The league, sponsored by the Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation, will run Jan. 8-March 13, with games played on Saturdays in either Los Gatos High School or Fisher Middle School. Walk-in, mail-in and fax (395-3828) are now being accepted at the recreation department office, 123 E. Main St. The registration deadline is Nov. 13. The fee of $65 includes a T-shirt and framed team picture. There is a $5 fee charged to those players who do not live within the recreation district. Practice begins the week of Dec. 7, and coaches will stress the fundamentals of dribbling, shooting, passing and offensive and defensive maneuvers. For more information on the program, call 354-8700. Stanford Baseball Camps on Tap A series of Stanford holiday baseball camps will be offered in November and December. Hitting and defensive instruction will be offered over Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 27-29, and there will be pitching, hitting and defensive camps over Christmas vacation on Dec. 20-22 and Dec. 27-29. Christmas Classic The Christmas Classic, a basketball tournament for boys and girls in grades 7-8, will be held Dec. 18-20 in San Jose. The entry fee is $100 and the registration deadline is Dec. 1. Alumni Football For most high school players, there's no football after high school. There are some players, though, who aren't quite ready to see those days of tackle football end. And they plan to do something about it. The group is looking for former Los Gatos, Saratoga, Cupertino, Leigh, Monta Vista and Homestead high school football players to play at San Jose PAL Stadium.
