Saratoga NewsVillage BriefsVilla Montalvo hosts community of painters The Saratoga Community of Painters, a local group of 17 artists who have been gathering to paint the outdoors and exchange ideas for about six years, will exhibit their works from Nov. 7 through Dec. 6 at the Gallery at Villa Montalvo, located at 15400 Montalvo Road, Saratoga. Under the leadership of Saratogan Judy Puthuff, the group has organized a show featuring watercolor images of Montalvo, its grounds and its many landmark features. SCP members are Karmen Askew, Dennis Augustine, Norman Carter, Nancy Deweese, Jane Garrod, Donald Geoffry, Mary Ann Henderson, Carol Heeter, David D. Hunt, Roben Martin, Ann Marie Mix, Emma Mori, Nancy Patka, Judy Puthuff, Mary Ann Snedeker, Dan Tellep and Miyoko Whittelsey. A reception for the artists takes place Nov. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Gallery. 'Our Developing World' holds a handicraft sale 'Our Developing World' holds its annual international handicraft sale on Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m at the home of Saratogans Barby and Vic Ulmer. A nonprofit educational project created by the Ulmers, the organization brings information, culture and crafts from Third World countries to Americans through programs in schools, churches and community groups, a free lending resource library, material aid and study tours. For the sale, the Ulmers bought handicrafts, toys and woven goods from villagers in countries including Vietnam, Laos, Honduras and Nepal. For directions or more information, call 379-4431. Artists' meeting features watercolor painting demo The Saratoga Community Artists (SCA) invites anyone interested in art to attend its Nov. 12 meeting, which takes place at 7 p.m. at the Saratoga Library, located at 13650 Saratoga Ave. San Jose resident, private art teacher and prolific artist Barbara Koberlein offers a watercolor painting demonstration. Among her favorite themes are the beauty of nature and the use of rich color harmonies.
