National Dean's List announced

Several local students are featured in the 19th annual National Dean's List. They include: Bhuvanesh K. Abrol, a student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Lawrence K. Chan, Stanford University; Cathy H. Chang, University of Southern California; Kevin M. Epes, Santa Clara University; Darren C. Finnecy, George Fox College; Colleen M. Haggerty, Jeffrey R. Lane and Emily K. Lewis, San Jose State University; Christine M. Loretz, Simpson College; Deborah Mathis, UC-Davis; Eriko Miura, Stanford University; David Nguyen, UCLA; Erik Sudderth and Laura Wilson, UC-San Diego; Kristen Taglia, University of the Pacific; and Jennifer Yang, UC-Berkeley.

Outdoor orientation helps acclimation

Ann S. Birenbaum, a first-year student at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, began college with a canoe camping trip on the Kennebec River in Maine's north woods. She is the daughter of Lazar and Janelle Birenbaum and is one of 472 first-year students participating in the Colby Outdoor Orientation Trip.

Corrales finishes ROTC training

Elizabeth A. Corrales has completed a U.S. Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps field training encampment at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

The four- to six-week summer curriculum consists of orientation on jet aircraft, physical fitness and survival training. The cadet is a student at UC-Berkeley.

She is the daughter of Concepcion and Ignacio J. Corrales of Saratoga and a 1994 graduate of Presentation High School in San Jose.
