Three planning commissioners have been appointed to serve Saratoga into the 21st century. Mary-Lynne Bernald and incumbents Margaret Patrick and Richard Siegfried were appointed by the City Council Oct. 16 to serve until October 2000. They will be sworn into office at the Nov. 6 council meeting.
Bernald will replace commissioner and international marketing consultant Sami Asfour, whose four-year term expires this year. The homemaker and community volunteer has been active in the Saratoga-Los Gatos League of Women Voters and facilitated a town meeting for the Parks and Recreation Commission. Bernald also served as a paralegal for Senior Adults Legal Assistance Agency (SALA), a nonprofit organization.
Patrick, a practicing family lawyer, has been a commissioner since August 1994. Patrick is also active in Friends of Saratoga Library, California Women Lawyers, and Redwood Middle School and Foothill Elementary School parent-teacher associations.
Siegfried was reappointed to the Planning Commission in 1994. The retired Pacific Telesis assistant general counsel was chairman of the 1982 General Plan Committee, chairman of the Northwest Hillside Committee and a member of the Good Government Group and Lions Club.
