Scholarships up for grabs

The Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation has 250 $1,000 scholarships available to high school and college students.

High school students with a grade-point average of "B" or better and college students with a GPA of "B+" or better are eligible. Winners will be selected based on academic performance, extracurricular activities and some consideration of financial need.

Requests for applications must be made by Dec. 16, 1997, and must include the student's name, permanent home address, name of current high school or college, approximate GPA and the year in school during the 1997-98 academic year.

To request an application, write to the Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation at 721 N. McKinley Road, P.O. Box 5012, Lake Forest, Ill., 60045-5012. Requests can be faxed to 847/295-3972 or made via email at scholar@ecsf.org.

Fellowship awarded to Saratoga resident

Gregory Johnstone has been awarded a two-year Olin Fellowship by the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass.

The graduate school awards fellowships to only the most highly qualified MBA candidates based on academic, professional and personal merit, without regard to financial need.

WVC to build links with hospital

West Valley College will use a $50,000 grant from the Valley Foundation to renovate two health-career training classrooms and purchase and install multimedia stations, computers and software.

The Valley Foundation was established in 1984 from the proceeds of the sale of the Community Hospital of Los Gatos and Saratoga. The foundation gives funds to nonprofit organizations in Santa Clara County that emphasize the medical field.

WVC offers medical programs for careers as a hospital unit coordinator, insurance billing specialist, medical assistant, medical office clinical and administrative assistant, medical receptionist and medical transcriptionist.

Saratogan to be in Foothill show

Saratogan Jason Van Over will appear in Foothill College Theater Conservatory's production of Beauty and the Beast from Nov. 20 through Nov. 23 in the Smithwick Theater at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.

Van Over is one of 25 cast members from around the Bay Area who will help bring the production, directed by Foothill drama instructor Gigi Steyer, to life.

Performances are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20, at 9:30 a.m.; Friday., Nov. 21, at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.; Saturday, Nov. 22, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $5. For information, call 650/948-4444.
