Kimono show, tea at Hakone Gardens

To further the cultural exchange between the United States and Japan, the Japanese women's club known as Satsuki Kai Inc. hosts a kimono show and traditional tea ceremony on Nov. 19 at Hakone Gardens, 21000 Big Basin Way.

The event begins at 10:30 a.m., when Satsuki Kai members will display kimonos, demonstrate how to wear them and explain how and why the kimono is handed down from generation to generation. The wife of the consul general of Japan is a Satsuki Kai member and is expected to attend. The tea ceremony commences at 11:15 a.m.

Satsuki Kai, founded in San Francisco in 1957, seeks to build better understanding and friendship within its membership and between women of the United States and Japan. The group schedules many activities throughout the year, including social outings and community service programs.

There is no charge to attend the kimono show and tea. For reservations, call 356-1743 or 725-1286.
