    LG-SJUHSD gives nod to candidates

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to appoint incumbent board members Jackie Schmidt-Posner and Lorrie Wernick to the board at its Nov. 7 meeting.

Since both ran unopposed, there was no formal election. They will both serve four-year terms.

According to California Elections Code Section 10515(a) and California Education Code Sections 5326 and 5328, district governing boards may appoint a member when only one person has declared candidacy for an elective office. Both Schmidt-Posner and Wernick were elected in November 1996.

City hall is home to canned food drive

The Second Harvest Food Bank delivered nonperishable food collection barrels to city offices on Nov. 8, as part of its annual holiday food drive.

Last year, the city of Saratoga donated more than 350 pounds of food in the drive, according to Cary Bloomquist, in the city's public works department. This year, the organization wants to collect powdered milk, peanut butter, canned meats, cereal, tuna, soups, canned fruit and 100 percent fruit juices. Barrels are located in city hall, the community development department lobby, the civic theater lobby, the senior center and the recreation department reception area.

    Public meeting on library expansion

On Nov. 20, the library expansion committee will hold its next community meeting on the renovation and expansion of the Saratoga Community Library on Saratoga Avenue. The meeting's focus will be the library's proposed building design. It will take place in the Saratoga Community Center on Allendale Avenue at 7 p.m.
