Saratoga's finances are looking good
Saratoga's financial state is better than expected for this time of year, according to a financial report for the quarter ending Sept. 30. Saratoga's revenues are slightly higher than expected, and expenditures are slightly lower overall.
As of September, general fund revenues are about $15,000 higher than expected, and the fund's expenditures are about $111,000 lower, with savings in many program budgets.
Development fund revenues are relatively high because there is a lot of development in the city, and the fund's expenditures are low, which is typical during the first few months of the fiscal year, said Mary Jo Walker, director of administrative services. Expenditures are low for the streets and roads fund for the same reason. All other funds are basically what they were budgeted to be.
It is too early to predict the outcome for the whole year, Walker said, adding that the June figures are more important because that is when the fiscal year ends.
GGG holds meeting on traffic plan
The Good Government Group on Nov. 23 will hold a public meeting on the status of the circulation and scenic highway element of the city's General Plan, which is being updated. A GGG board meeting will follow.
James Walgren, director of community development, or a representative from that department will present an informal review and discussion of progress toward the city's traffic-control plan. The meeting will take place at Our Lady of Fatima Villa, 20400 Saratoga-Los Gatos Road, at 7:15 p.m. Questions can be directed to Al Roten at 408.252.0131.
Free composting class at the library
Local gardening and recycling enthusiasts can take part in a Composting Basics workshop sponsored by the city of Saratoga and the county's Home Composting Education Program.
Attendees will find out how to buy a composting bin. The free class convenes Nov. 20 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Saratoga Library. Pre-registration is required. Call 408.299.4147.
