    Obituary

    Kenneth Wood

Los Gatos resident Kenneth "Ken" Stannard Wood, who formerly lived in Saratoga for many years, died Sept. 20 at the age of 85.

Born on July 11, 1914, in Gold Beach, Ore., Wood was a 1935 graduate of the University of Oregon. Two years later, he married wife Ruth Billings, who preceded him in death. He later graduated from Northwestern College of Law and worked for the Oregon State Tax Commission and the CPA firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co. He later established his own CPA practice in San Jose, called Wood, Nye & Co., which later merged into Hurdman and Cranstoun.

Wood also was a part-time instructor at Multnomah College in Portland and later at San Jose State University and the University of California Extension Division.

Wood was a member of the American Institute of CPAs, a board member of the Visiting Nurses Association, an honorary life member and past president of the California State Society of CPAs and a founding member of the society's San Jose chapter. He also was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and Lions clubs, the University Club of San Jose, the Estate Planning Council of San Jose and the Peninsula Tax Club. An active usher, speaker and vestry member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Saratoga, Wood also enjoyed golf, bridge, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include wife Virginia Kotkin Wood; son Warren Wood; daughters Sue Ellen Hogue and Lucinda Thompson; stepson George Mansfield; grandchildren Wendy and Kenneth Wood, David and Jenifer Thompson and Kimberly Ferreira.

    Memorial services have been held.
