Ricketts, Daniels lead Falcons to glory at CCS

It was cool and bright for the Central Coast Section cross country meet at Crystal Springs in Belmont last weekend.

And Saratoga's Anne Ricketts and Alex Daniels were rather cool and bright themselves as they ran to top 10 finishes in CCS Division IV.

Ricketts romped to a third-place finish to lead the Saratoga girls to a team third at the CCS Division IV finals, and Daniels raced to a fourth-place finish to lead the Falcons to a team second.

Ricketts covered the 2.95-mile course in 18:38 to nail third place. The senior was joined at the finish line by teammates Elissa Dines, a sophomore who was 22nd in 21:21; Laura Lin, sophomore, 23rd in 21:22; MiMi Choi, junior, 25th in 21:36; Dernie Wang, sophomore, 38th in 22:14; Jenny Yoo, junior, 59th in 22:51; and Carol Liu, sophomore, 67th in 23:26.

The Falcons ended up third as a team with 102 points behind Sacred Heart Cathedral (60) and Notre Dame-San Jose (100). Half Moon Bay (104) was a close fourth.

Daniels led the Saratoga boys to a team second behind Half Moon Bay. The senior standout was fourth overall in 16:25.

Alex Shoor, another senior, joined Daniel in the top 10 with a 10th place finish in 16:48. Sophomore Jake Christopherson was 13th in 16:56, with freshman David La 15th in 17:04, senior Luke Anderson 16th in 17:06, junior Jeff Beyers 21st in 17:23 and freshman Richard La 44th in 18:13.

In other divisions of CCS, the Prospect girls ran to a team fifth in Division I action, and the Westmont boys finished 11th in Division III

Laura Kniskern led the Panthers to the fifth-place finish by nailing 11th place in the division. The junior star covered the course in 19:57.

Senior Kristi Cangiamilla was 19th in 20:37, with junior Elizabeth Giles 22nd in 20:47, senior Alison Prehn 31st in 21:12, senior Sarah Yarnall 47th in 22:13, freshman Danielle Zelinski 53rd in 22:41 and senior Colleen Haley 69th in 25:03.

St. Ignatius finished first in the team standings with 41 points. Leland (90) was second, with Burlingame (109) third, San Benito (120) fourth and Prospect (125) fifth.

Yasin Fetto led the Westmont boys to a solid 11th-place finish in the Division III team standings. Fetto, a junior, finished 34th in 17:07 for the Warriors.

Craig Renteria, a senior, finished 62nd in 17:54 for Westmont, with Jordan Lee, a sophomore, 79th in 18:34; Kris Laumets, junior, 83rd in 18:48; Rob Burgoon, senior, 86th in 18:56; Jonathan Baughman, junior, 93rd in 19:45; and Dustin Wong, junior, 94th in 19:45.

In boys' Division II action, Lynbrook senior Aman Sirohi raced to a 31st place finish in 17:01. Junior Kai Yu was 100th in 18:41, and senior William Liow was 109th in 19:00 for the Vikings.
