Creole musician Geno Delafose will be among performers appearing at Villa Montalvo.
Villa Montalvo, Saratoga's historic estate for the arts, announces its first Winter Concert Series.
The series, to be held in the newly renovated 300-seat Carriage House Theater, begins Jan. 10 and continues through April 11.
Proceeds from the concerts will benefits art programs at Montalvo, including the Artist Residency Program, the Gallery at Montalvo, community outreach and literary arts activities.
Bruce Labadie, programming director, has scheduled performers from the worlds of jazz, classical, rhythm and blues, pop and family entertainment. Many of the performers will be making their Montalvo debuts.
The schedule includes: pianist Booker T. Jones in a special solo performance on Jan. 10; jazz trumpeter Rick Braun on March 2; composer Philip Glass in two recitals March 5 and 6; South African a cappella stars Ladysmith Black Mambazo on March 7; Theatereworks/USA's one-man puppet performance of Aesop's Fables on March 8; Creole powerhouse Geno Delafose on March 9; Blues legend Charles Brown on March 14; The Kinks founder Ray Davies on April 2 and 3; Quartetto Gelato on April 4; and duo Willie and Lobo on April 11.
Tickets for the 1997 Winter Series go on sale through the Montalvo Box Office starting Nov. 21 at 10 a.m.
