    Outdoor school takes learning out of the classroom and into the wilds


    The teacher takes a green pen and draws lines across the girl's face. He takes a handful of branches and twigs and dumps everything onto her head. "Now," he tells the rest of the class, "Irina is a tree." The teacher is field instructor Ron Lauder, whose "nature name" is Spider, and the location is Walden West Center off Sanborn Road, an outdoor school and camp that serves youngsters from all over the Silicon Valley.   More
