    Vikes win, Jags fall

The women's volleyball teams at West Valley Community College and San Jose City College had different results in Coast Conference matches last week.

The Vikings handled Hartnell 15-11, 17-15, 15-13 in a close match. The win helped West Valley improve to 8-10 for the year and 5-7 in conference play.

The Jaguars saw their record evened at 11-11 after losing a hard-fought decision to Cabrillo. The Jags dropped a 15-2, 15-12, 10-15, 15-5 decision to the Seahawks.

    Vikes win title

A six-goal third quarter sparked the West Valley Community College men's water polo team to a tight 11-8 win over San Diego Mesa in the state championship game last week.

The Vikings, who finished the year 22-3-1, led 3-1 after a period, but trailed 4-3 after being held scoreless in the second quarter.

West Valley battled back to outscore Mesa 6-2 in the third to go in front 9-6, then the Vikes matches Mesa's two goals in the fourth to hold on for the three-goal victory.
