    Book-Go-Round holds open house used book sale

    The Book-Go-Round, 14410 Oak St., invites the community to its open house Nov. 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

    The open house is the first chance for customers to peruse what the store calls its "Good as New Books"--editions from 1998-99 or slightly older that are all in very good condition. Genres include art, biography, children's stories, cookbooks, fiction and travel. The Good as New display will be available throughout December.

    The Book-Go-Round is run by Friends of the Saratoga Libraries. Regular hours are Sunday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Saratoga Community Library. For more information, call 408.867.5552 or visit members.aol.com/BookGoRnd on the Internet.

    Community Band to perform at West Valley College

    The Saratoga Community Band/West Valley Symphonic Band performs Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. at the West Valley College Theater, 14000 Fruitvale Ave.

    The program features overtures, marches, jazz tunes, popular songs and holiday favorites. The band, which has 98 members of all ages, is under the direction of Craig Northrup, a former Saratoga High School band director. The concert is free, but a donations will be accepted after intermission.

    The band is sponsored by the West Valley College Music Department and Department of Community Education. Local musicians are welcome to join. Call 408.867.2200.

    Local church plans adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol'

    Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 12770 Saratoga Ave., presents Charles Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.

    Directed by Mary Elizabeth Enmann, this performance is an adaptation of the story for readers' theater and features two local actors, Don Hiatt and Virginia "Ginger" Drake. They are joined by the local ensembles Ladyesong and Dancing with Strings. A reception follows the performance. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens, or $25 per family.
