Rotarians seek aid for Honduran relief

The Saratoga Rotary Club is rallying to the aid of the victims of Hurricane Mitch in Honduras--and hoping the Saratoga community will help. The Saratoga Fire Department has volunteered to serve as a collection point for donations.

Needed are contributions of children's clothing, household goods, including plastic glasses and dishes, pots, pans and bedding materials, tents and items that can be used for rebuilding, including hammers, saws, nails, plywood and shovels.

The goal is to fill a 40-cubic-yard container. All donations should be put in boxes rather than bags.

Green Valley hosts curbside food drive

Green Valley Recycling will be sponsoring its eighth annual canned food drive from Dec. 7 through 11.

Residents in Monte Sereno, Los Gatos and Saratoga are encouraged to donate canned goods by placing them in clearly marked bags next to their curbside recycling bins on their regular collection days. Green Valley will then deliver the food to the Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution to needy families in the Santa Clara County.

Green Valley reps suggest that residents wait until the morning of collection before placing the canned food out on the curb. Food donations can also be delivered to the Green Valley office, located at 573 University Ave., Los Gatos.

The food drive will take place rain or shine.

For more information about the donation program, call Green Valley at 354-2100.
