    Softball Tryouts

    The Lady Sharks will hold tryouts for their 18-and-under Gold summer softball team on Dec. 5 at West Valley Community College in Saratoga. Pitchers and catchers should report 10 a.m.-noon, with all other players reporting 12:30-3:30 p.m. For more information, call Kevin Newman at 408.224.6302.

    Soccer Tryouts

    An undefeated girls Class 3 under-11 soccer team will hold spring tryouts on Dec. 11-12. The District II championship team is affiliated with the De Anza Youth Soccer League.

    The team is looking for girls from the Cupertino/Saratoga area born after July 31, 1989. For more information, call Steve at 408.252.9631.

    Girls Soccer

    Tryouts for under-10/under-11 girls Class 1 and 3 soccer teams in the De Anza Youth Soccer League will be held Dec. 9 and 11. The teams are looking for girls from the Cupertino/ Saratoga area born after July 31, 1989.     Gym open to 40+

    The small gym at Saratoga High School will be open for basketball for players age 40 and over every Tuesday, 7-9 p.m. The drop-in fee is $3 per night, and new players must show proof of age. For more information, call 408.868.1248.

    Youth Basketball

    The Saratoga Recreation Department is holding registration for youngsters in the first-sixth grades interested in playing in the 2000 Saratoga Youth Basketball League.

    Games will be played on Saturdays, Jan. 8-March 19, and the instructional basketball league will stress fundamentals, teamwork and sportsmanship. All youngsters will play at least two quarters per game.

    Teams in the third-sixth grade divisions will practice one evening during the week.

    Players in the third and fourth grades will play for teams formed by zones. Players in the fifth and sixth grades will attend a skills assessment session on Dec. 14 at Saratoga High School to determine team placement.

    The first-second grade division is in its first year and will feature shorter baskets. Teams will practice on Saturdays prior to their games.
