Saratoga NewsNews BriefsCouncil seeks to fill finance vacancies The Saratoga City Council is seeking interested residents to fill two vacancies on the city's Finance Commission. The vacancies were created by the recent resignation of Charlene Low and the election of commission chairman Nick Streit to the City Council. The Finance Commission meets on the second Monday of each month, and advises the council on matters relating to the city budget, audits and spending policy. For the past few months, the commission has been working on a five-year financial plan for the city. The plan is scheduled to be presented to the council in January. Residents over the age of 18 with experience in finance are encouraged to apply, but experience is not necessary. Applications can be picked up at Saratoga City Hall, 13777 Allendale Ave., during regular business hours. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m., Dec. 3. For information, call the city clerk's office at 868-1269. Art historian will give talk on Getty Museum Denise Erickson, art historian and lecturer, will speak on the "The New Getty Museum" on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m., at the Saratoga Community Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave. The slide program is free and will include an overview of the new museum, its planning and design and its significance in the art world. Erickson will also provide tips on how to plan a museum trip. Erickson is a professor of art history at Cañada College and gives community lectures for the Committee for Art at Stanford University and Foothill College. Erickson also leads private museum, art collection and garden tours in the United States and Europe. Reservations are not necessary, but for more information, call 867-6127. The program is being sponsored by the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries. Council to discuss use of COPS funds The Saratoga City Council is scheduled to consider proposed uses for Citizens Option for Public Safety (COPS) funding Dec. 2. Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department officials are recommending that the money be used to fund the city's code enforcement technician position to enhance code and law enforcement efforts.
