Saratoga NewsVillage BriefsConcert choir sings carols and classics St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave. in Saratoga, hosts "Carols and Classics," a Season of Hope Performance on Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. The event, co-sponsored by St. Andrew's and the Bay Networks Concert Choir, is part of a collaborative project among the arts, business and spiritual communities of Santa Clara County. The theme is "We Can Make a Difference." Suggested donation is $10 per adult. Children are free. Winery holds its holiday open house The Byington Winery and Vineyards holds its eighth annual Holiday Open House Dec. 6 from noon to 4 p.m. It includes warm fires, holiday music, Christmas caroling, treats and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Children are welcome. Adults will have the opportunity to taste some newly released wines. Sourdough bread bowls filled with hot soup will also be available for purchase. Nearby Christmas tree farms will be open for families interested in bringing a tree home early. The winery is at 21850 Bear Creek Road in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Schola Cantorum performs Handel's 'Judas Maccabeus' Schola Cantorum, an independent South Bay chorus offering choral music and music education programs, presents George Frederick Handel's oratorio Judas Maccabeus on Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. at Congregation Beth David, 19700 Prospect Road in Saratoga. It will be joined by the Master Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra. A pre-concert talk by the orchestra's David Ramadanoff and Beth David's Rabbi Daniel J. Pressman takes place at 7:15 p.m. As an alternative to Handel's holiday favorite The Messiah, Judas Maccabeus dramatizes the historical events celebrated during the holiday of Chanukah. Singing with Schola Cantorum are Bay Area soloists Nancy Wait Kromm, soprano; Wendy Hillhouse, mezzo-soprano; Neal Rogers, tenor; and Leroy G. Kromm, baritone-bass.
