Saratoga NewsNews BriefsCommission seeks applications The deadline for Saratoga Finance Commission applicants has been extended to Dec. 22. Residents with experience in financial management tools and techniques--including technology--are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be asked to attend a commission meeting and will be interviewed by the City Council. Interested Saratogans over age 18 can get an application at City Hall, at 13777 Fruitvale Ave., during business hours. For more information, call 868-1269. SUSD will hold public hearing The Saratoga Union School District announced it will hold a public hearing on redistricting on Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Redwood Middle School. The hearing will take place during the board's regular meeting. SUSD Superintendent Mary Gardner said the board is asking for public input on which position to take regarding the preliminary data on school district reorganization compiled by the consultant for the Santa Clara County Committee on School District Organization. Gardner said the SUSD board will make a decision that night, or at least take some stand on one of the four possible scenarios proposed, after hearing from the public. Miller Avenue RFP expected at council The Saratoga City Council is expected to review a request for proposals to be sent out to find a traffic consultant to study Miller Avenue and surrounding streets. Residents for years have been complaining about the number of cars and the speeds they travel along the residential streets, and the problem, they said, has only gotten worse since the opening of Highway 85. The council decided in October to seek proposals and have the area studied to determine the extent of the problem and how to handle it. Keep pets safe The Humane Society recommends using an artificial tree with soft needles and unbreakable ornaments to ensure pet safety during the holidays. The needles from real trees can lodge in a pet's nostrils. As for tinsel, it can cut through a pet's intestines if swallowed.
