Saratoga NewsVillage BriefsWesthope Church presents musical The Wish, a new play by San Jose playwright Peter Barrett, will be performed Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at Westhope Presbyterian Church, located at 12850 Saratoga Ave. The cast is made up of Westhope members as well as those from Westminster Presbyterian Church in San Jose. Barrett, who also directs the play, describes it as "a little like The Wizard of Oz meets the Nativity, with a lot of good music thrown in." It includes a dream sequence, jazz standards and a traditional Christmas story and is suitable for the whole family. A donation of $3 for adults and $1 for children is requested. For information, call 255-0955. Holiday fun for kids at Rec. Dept. The Saratoga Recreation Department holds its Holiday Vacation Camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 22-23 and 29-30. Campers are organized into different age groups--from 312 to 10--and participate in craft-making, singing, games, cooking and other activities. There will also be a visit from Santa Claus and educational field trips to the Saratoga Library and post office. Campers should bring their own lunches. Registration fee is $99 for residents or $109 for nonresidents. A one-day Make 'N Take class in which children ages 3-12 create holiday crafts and gift items takes place Dec. 13. Class times vary depending on age group. Bring a bag lunch. Fee is $19 for residents or $24 for nonresidents, along with a $10 materials fee. For more information, call 868-1248 or 868-1249. Community Band offers concert The Saratoga Community Band/West Valley Symphonic Band presents a concert on Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. at the West Valley College Theater. The band, which started in 1990, is under the direction of Craig Northrup, a former Saratoga High School band director and music director of the Vienna International Music Festival. The program features overtures, marches, selections from Broadway musicals, jazz and popular tunes and holiday favorites. The band, which rehearses every Monday evening, is always looking for interested new musicians. Although the concert is free, donations are welcome. For information, call 867-2200.
