Where have they gone?

We're looking for local athletes who have gone on to stardom beyond the area high school ranks. We're accumulating the information to publish in an issue this December featuring the many talented athletes from the area who are now competing in college and beyond. Chen wins gold

Arthur Chen, an eighth-grader at Redwood Middle School, won two gold medals and a silver at the USA Wusha Kungfu Federation National and International Invitational Tournament at San Francisco State University.

Chen won gold in the long-fist and broad-sword competition, and won silver in staff (cudgel). He studies under coach Bobby Liu at Achieve Kungfu Academy in Santa Clara.

Pop Warner teams advance to playoffs

Nick Scrabe passed for over 135 yards for the Panthers, but the Los Gatos Pop Warner Football team lost a 24-19 heartbreaker to Redwood City in the regional playoffs.

The Panthers (ages 12-14) played Redwood City under the lights in Pacifica, but they lost when they fumbled the ball away on the Redwood City one-yard line.

Scrabe led the offensive effort, tossing a 60-yard touchdown pass to Brett Maryon. Heavi Williams supported with 84 yards rushing for the Panthers and Jerry Yuhara ran for 65 yards.

The Panthers figured as one of three Los Gatos Pop Warner teams to advance to the playoffs. The Tigers (8-9) lost 7-0 to Oak Grove East, and the Cougars (11-12) lost 31-0 to Oak Grove South.

Two Los Gatos cheerleader squads advanced to regional competition. The organization draws participants from the greater Los Gatos-Saratoga area.

Kicking, Punting Clinic

Aaron Mills, a former kicker for Stanford and the San Jose Sabercats, will host a winter kicking and punting clinic on Dec. 7-8, 1-5 p.m. each day, at West Valley College in Saratoga. The cost is $150 per player. For more information, call Mills at 702-746-3863.

Redwood School needs coaches

Redwood Middle School in Saratoga is looking for soccer, basketball and volleyball coaches. Anyone interested should call the school at 867-1635, ext. 240.
