    Sheriff's Report

Water Sprinkler Tower Vandalized--Nov. 26, 9:40 a.m. on Titus Avenue. The unknown suspect(s) forced open a wooden cabinet that housed a $200 water sprinkler timer and flooded the timer with water from a nearby hose. Although the suspect(s) damaged the cabinet, the reporting party wasn't sure if the suspect(s) damaged the timer. No one witnessed the crime.

Annoying Phone Calls--Nov. 21, 12 p.m. on Oak Creek Lane. The victim was receiving computer-generated phone calls, where all he would hear on the other end of the line were beeps. He told his phone company, who conducted an investigation and found the caller. When phone company personnel called the person who was making the calls, the person refused to stop or fix the computer. The victim, who was encouraged by phone company personnel, felt compelled to file a report, and has been logging the calls.

Theft by Credit Card, Misappropriated Found Property--Nov. 21, 8:30 a.m. on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. The victim lost her purse Nov. 16. The next day, a person called the victim and said that she and her boyfriend had found the victim's purse. The caller returned the purse to the victim. The victim then learned by making phone calls that someone had used her bank credit card to obtain some goods. The sheriff's office suspects that the people who returned the purse are responsible, because an investigation revealed that they had it when the illegal transaction occurred. The sheriff's office also found something that the female suspect said to be false.

Residential Burglary--Nov. 20, 4 p.m. on Sperry Lane. On Oct. 9, the victim returned home and found that a $22,000 8-foot by 10-foot yellow and red silk Persian rug had disappeared from his living room. No other property in the house was missing or had been disturbed.

Petty Theft--Nov. 20, 1:10 p.m. on Chester Avenue. The victim told the officer that on Sept. 18 and Nov. 20, an unknown suspect removed some checks from her checkbook and stole her credit card. The victim said that someone cashed one of the missing checks Oct. 13 and tried to use the credit card.

Identity Theft, Petty Theft--Nov. 20, 8:50 a.m. on Fourth Street. Between 10 p.m. on May 5 and 1:30 a.m. on May 6, an unknown suspect took the victim's wallet from her purse while she was at Miyagi's Restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. The wallet contained $120 in cash and three credit cards. The suspect later opened a checking account under the victim's name at a bank in Las Vegas. The suspect wrote five fraudulent checks at unknown locations for a total of $1,011.86. The suspect also tried to open a credit card account, but was unsuccessful.

Commercial Burglary (Construction Site Tools)--Nov. 20, 8 a.m. on Villa Oaks Lane. The victims, who were building a two-level multimillion-dollar custom home, would leave their tools at the construction site overnight. Between 5 p.m. on Nov. 19 and 6:05 a.m. on Nov. 20, unknown suspects either pried or pulled open a door in the garage that leads into the house. They took numerous power tools, including a 200-pound brick saw, but left others behind. The sheriff's office processed latent fingerprints on two saws that the suspects had moved to take and received negative results.
