Recreation Dept. is planning new activities for 2000

The Saratoga Recreation department has printed its Winter/Spring 2000 Activities Guide, which lists classes beginning around the third week in January. New offerings this year include classes for adults on stained glass, primitive doll making and fabric painting. Children's classes include "Brunch with Ms. Manners at Bella Saratoga" and "Mother's Day Tea at Le Mouton Noir."

New dance classes also have been added for the winter. Call 408.868.1248 for more information on classes.

The Recreation Department and the Festival Theatre Ensemble will present the play Cinderella at the community center in April. Auditions for children in grades 2-12 will take place Jan. 15 at 9 a.m. at the community center. Callbacks are the same day, and singing is not required.

Homeless animals need blankets, towels for warmth

The Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley is holding a blanket and towel drive that will last through December. The nonprofit organization provides many animal services to Saratoga and eight other cities in the county, including providing shelter for strays.

Now that the weather is getting colder, blankets and towels give the homeless animals at the shelter extra warmth and feelings of security and comfort, according to Leslie Baike, public relations coordinator for the society. Please bring donations to the shelter at 2530 Lafayette St. in Santa Clara. For more information, call 408.727.3383 ext. 854.

Chamber will deliver letters to Santa Claus

The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce is accepting letters on Santa Claus' behalf. Each year, the Chamber collects about 300 letters addressed to Santa, which they promptly deliver to his home. Every letter with a return address receives an answer from Father Christmas himself, postmarked the North Pole.

Mail letters in special Chamber boxes at the main post office on Allendale Avenue, the Village post office or at Mail Boxes Etc. on Big Basin Way from Dec. 8 to 21.
