    Friends of Library get ready for their holiday potluck

    The Friends of the Saratoga Libraries holds its traditional holiday potluck party on Dec. 13 at the Book-Go-Round, the Friends' used book store at the corner of Saratoga-Los Gatos Road and Oak Street.

    The festivities begin at 6 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres provided by the Friends. The party then moves next door to Our Lady of Fatima Villa for coffee and dessert. As part of the evening, computer expert and longtime Friend Bob Louden will present an informative program about trading on the Internet. The public is welcome.     Visits from St. Nick come to Saratoga, Los Gatos residents

    The Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation has again arranged for Santa Claus to make housecalls in Saratoga and Los Gatos to surprise eager children and spread holiday cheer.

    A session with the jolly old elf costs $38 and lasts between 10 and 15 minutes. Santa is limited to six children per visit. The program runs from Dec. 12 through 21. Advance registration is required; call 408.354.8700 or stop by the office at 123 E. Main St. in Los Gatos. If possible, the Rec Department requests maps to home locations.

    San Jose Symphonic Choir performs at Saratoga church

    The San Jose Symphonic Choir, now in 75th season, presents an evening of seasonal music on Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave. The choir, directed and conducted by Maestro Leroy Kromm, will perform numbers including Vespers, Opus 37 by Rachmaninoff, Serenade of Carols by Morton Gould and O Nata Lux from Morten Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna. Tenor Jason Black, who appears courtesy of Opera San Jose, joins the choir for the latter number.

    The SJSC is a nonprofit performing arts group sponsored in part by the City of San Jose Fine Arts Commission and the Arts Council of Silicon Valley.

    Tickets are $18 for general admission and $15 for students and senior citizens. For more information, call 408.879.9709.
