Saratoga NewsOn CampusAYUSA seeking host families Academic Year in the USA (AYUSA) is seeking families to host high school exchange students from more than 50 different countries who will spend the spring semester in our area. AYUSA, a nonprofit organization, offers local support for students and host families. The organization also has part-time jobs available. Saratogan named to play in orchestra Saratogan Ranyee Agnes Chiang, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shinwu Chiang, was recently named to the Brown University Orchestra, which is made up solely of students, in Providence, R.I. The Brown University Orchestra is one of the highest-rated university orchestras in the country and is led by conductor Paul Phillips. Reunion committees looking for alumni Prospect High School's Class of 1978 reunion committee is seeking alumni for a possible reunion. Those who graduated from Prospect in 1978 should contact Back to the Future Reunions at 662-8482. No date has been set for the reunion. Local student makes state preteen event Danelle Medeiros of Saratoga participated in the Pre-Teen America Scholarship and Recognition Program held in Sacramento on Nov. 7. Medeiros, daughter of Joe and Deanna Medeiros, was chosen to appear in the invitation-only event because she was a finalist in the 1997 Pre-Teen California Scholarship and Recognition Program. The event is for girls age 7 to 12. Medeiros was chosen based on her school academic records, awards and honors won and her participation in outside activities. At the event, Medeiros competed for more than $5,000 in educational bonds, prizes and awards. Medeiros was judged at the state finals on academic achievement, volunteer service to church and community, school honors and activities, development of personal skills and abilities, general knowledge, communication skills, stage review and acknowledgment of accomplishments. De Anza honors its part-timers De Anza College honored four Saratoga residents for having served at least 20 years as part-time faculty members at the college. Stanley Boone, who teaches cooperative work experience; Willa Dawson, in administration of justice; Kai-Cheon Leung, who teaches Cantonese; and physical education teacher James Schmiedt were among instructors who were honored at the college's annual employee holiday party Dec. 4.
