Among the classes the gift certificates can be used for are foreign languages, interior decorating, computer applications and music appreciation. Chanukah celebration The second annual Chanu-kah Event, sponsored by Jewish Family Service, takes place Dec. 14 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Jewish Community Center of Greater San Jose, located at 14855 Oka Road in Los Gatos. The Jewish festival of lights begins Dec. 24 and lasts for eight days. Among the entertainers is Side-By-Side, a group of five local women who perform original musical compositions in English, Hebrew and Yiddish. Children of émigré families will also sing holiday songs. Refreshments will be served. Admission is $3; children under 12 are free. Call 356-7576. Recreation Dept. offers activities Many activities get under way this January at the Saratoga Recreation Department. Jackie Sorenson's aerobic dancing and strong step class begins Jan. 13 and is designed as a safe aerobic workout for the nondancer. Strong step offers a blend of exercise and bench- and resistance-training. For information, call 867-7238. For sports fans, tennis classes for youths and adults of all skill levels begin Jan. 17 at Congress Springs Park. Instructors are Stanford University tennis coach John Whitlinger and U.S. Professional Tennis Association member Tom Sarsfield. Call 868-1248 or 868-1249 for more information. Exchange program seeks host families Academic and Cultural Exchange (ACE), a nonprofit organization that sponsors foreign exchange students to and from the United States, seeks families to host foreign students for the upcoming high school semester period of January through June.
