Jones sparks Falcons to victory in first game of the season

Elliott Jones turned an assist from teammate Mark Epes into a game-winning goal in Saratoga's 1-0 nonleague boys' soccer win over Independence. The goal came with just minutes left to play in the game to give the Falcons a victory in their first game of the season.

Saratoga's girls, meanwhile, opened the year with a 4-1 loss to Los Altos.

Quito signing up players, umpires

The Quito Little League will hold signups for the 1997 season on Jan. 13, 15 and 22, 6-9 p.m. each night, in the cafeteria at Rolling Hills Middle School, Pollard Road at More Avenue in Los Gatos.

Players ages 5-12 (as of July 31, 1997) are eligible for the league and must provide a birth certificate for proof of age and a PG&E bill for proof of residency at the registration. An $80 donation is requested.

The league is also looking for umpires for the coming season. The league needs adult volunteers and is also looking for high school and college students who will be paid by the game. Full training will be provided.

Games begin in March and continue through June.

We're looking for local athletes who have gone on to stardom beyond the area high school ranks. We're accumulating the information to publish in an issue this December featuring the many talented athletes from the area who are now competing in college and beyond. Redwood School needs coaches

Redwood Middle School in Saratoga is looking for soccer, basketball and volleyball coaches. Anyone interested should call the school at 867-1635, ext. 240.
