Foothill Club to fill annual gift baskets
The Saratoga Foothill Club is continuing its 50-year tradition of sharing holiday cheer with limited income seniors and families by giving away gift baskets of canned goods, dry foods, treats and other items. This year's chairwomen are club members Ann Peterson and Diane Stoiber.
Funding comes from the club; Saratoga elementary school students collect non-perishable foods and additional food donations come from Gene's Foods, Trader Joe's and Melani Poultry. Volunteers and club members fill the baskets--actually large boxes--and distribute them to help hungry area residents have a happy holiday season.
For more information about donating time, money or supplies, call club publicity co-chairs Phylis Ballingall at 408.867.3150 or Ronnie Rabedeau at 408.379.4741.
West Valley police seek teddy bears
The police officers of the West Valley-Mission Community College District are on the lookout for teddy bears and other furry stuffed animals--not because the creatures did anything wrong, but to donate them to the Children's Shelter and the Domestic Violence Shelter. Both serve Santa Clara County--the former is for children; the latter for children and women.
This year marks the district police's eighth year of collecting stuffed animals; last year's program brought in approximately 175. Donations can be dropped off at the district police headquarters at West Valley College, 14000 Fruitvale Ave. in Saratoga. For more information, call 408.741.2092.
Basketball league is taking signups
The Southwest YMCA, at 13500 Quito Road in Saratoga, is taking sign-ups now for its Winter Basketball League. The program is open to boys and girls of varying skill levels between the ages of 5 and 15. Registration deadline is Dec. 15. The first game is scheduled for Jan. 12. For more information, call Niki at 408.608.6825 or the Southwest YMCA at 408.370.1877.
