Sculpture will make a splash in civic courtyard
The Saratoga Rotary has offered to fund the design and installation of a water sculpture by Saratoga artist Heather Donaldson in the City Hall courtyard. The project should take only a couple of weeks to complete.
The sculpture will be a slate cube placed in a shallow pond filled with rocks, over which water will flow. It will be designed with a recirculating pump and use non-potable water.
Committee for library bond measure formed
The campaign has begun. Sally and Don Lucas of Saratoga will head up the Committee for the Saratoga Library Bond, which will work toward the passage of the bond measure in March. Other key campaigners are Friends of the Saratoga Libraries President Bill McDonnal, Mary Jeanne Fenn and Thomas Blaisdell.
In other library-related news, the City Council on Dec. 7 reviewed ballot arguments for the bond measure. No arguments opposing the bond were submitted. The argument in favor of the bond was signed by Saratoga High School Principal Kevin Skelly, Mayor Stan Bogosian, Sally Lucas, Library Commission Chairwoman Marcia Manzo and Bill McDonnal. Election law allows up to five people to sign a ballot argument.
City awards contract for HVAC replacement
The City Council awarded a construction contract for the replacement of the heating, ventilating and air conditioning system in the Civic Theater to Redwood General and Mechanical of Redwood City for $128,952. The funding for the project will come from the $160,000 allocated in the facility maintenance and building improvements sections of the budget.
Work will begin immediately and should be completed by the end of December.
