Saratoga NewsWVC-MCCD begins search nationwide for chancellorBy Michelle AlaimoA nationwide search has begun for a new chancellor for the West Valley-Mission Community College District to replace Rose Tseng who left earlier this year for a job in Hawaii. Lois A. Callahan is serving as the district's interim chancellor until the search is completed. The entire search is expected to take six months, Del Anderson, consultant with the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), said. The search is in its infancy, with a chancellor profile being compiled based on answers to three questions recently asked of members of the WV-MCCD community. The questions were: * Name the principal challenges and opportunities which the WV-MCCD must address in the next five to 10 years; * What are the background and experience, educational qualifications and professional and personal characteristics that the district should seek in a new chancellor; * The names of any individuals that should be encouraged to become candidates for the position of chancellor. Anderson said the profile will be mailed, most likely in January, to some 2,000 people in ACCT. From there, Anderson said the search committee will begin contacting people who could be potential chancellors. She said she did not expect to get the bulk of applicants until March and is expecting between 15 and 70 people to apply. The search committee will then interview 10 to 12 people and screen them down to the top three to five applicants who will be interviewed by the board of trustees. Once the board makes its choice, Anderson said the new chancellor will start between July 1 and Sept. 1, depending on prior commitments.
