City approves center architect
The Saratoga City Council has agreed to hire an architect to begin planning a Village public safety center with interested public agencies and citizens.
Although the Saratoga Fire District, one of the agencies involved in safety center discussions, is presently suing the city over the city's rejection of the district's planned station, district officials assured the city last week that they would remain in safety center talks.
Danville-based ATI Architects and Engineers was selected by the city council Dec. 11, at the recommendation of interested agencies and citizens.
The architectural firm was scheduled to hold its first planning session with the agencies and citizens on Dec. 17.
Planning will center on integrating new fire, sheriff's and U.S. Postal Service facilities at the corner of Highway 9 and Saratoga Avenue.
Commission agrees on fees
The Saratoga Parks and Recreation Commission recommended recently that the city council establish a new user fee at Congress Springs Park.
At a Dec. 10 meeting, the commission suggested an annual $15 fee per user for every youth sports participant at the park, which is currently undergoing renovation.
The new fees would be administered through the main user groups at Congress Springs--the American Youth Soccer Organization and Little League.
The fees would be collected in addition to the annual maintenance fee that each youth sports organization has traditionally paid for using Congress Springs.
Cary Bloomquist, the city's liaison to the parks commission, said the city is considering expanding user fees to cover costs at other parks in the city.
Senior center gets a grant
The Saratoga Area Senior Coordinating Council has received a $9,500 grant from Pacific Bell for computers.
Senior Council Executive Director Sean O'Leary said the money would be used for eight desktop computers and a new server.
The computers will be used as part of the senior center's web education program, which it has offered for the last several years.
