Council approves circulation element
On Dec. 12, the Saratoga City Council unanimously approved the update of the circulation and scenic highway element of the city's General Plan.
The element is one of the seven elements of the General Plan. It is the city's long-range traffic plan and it addresses future traffic conditions. It also addresses scenic highway designation and corridor preservation.
The element was last updated in 1983, before Highway 85 opened and before the whole county grew, in general. The city hired a consulting firm to update the element for some $70,000. Beginning in fall 1999, the city held many public meetings on the element's update and the city's planning commission unanimously endorsed the element in July.
The element is available on the city's website at www.saratoga.ca.us.
Commissioners had least absences
According to Saratoga's commission attendance records, the youth commission had the least number of absences of all the commissions for the second half of 2000--zero.
Attendance reports are submitted semi-annually in Saratoga for all seven of the city's commissions.
While during the period from January to June, there were eight absences on the 12-member youth commission, from July to December there were none. No other commission could boast zero absences for either half of the year.
City denies claim for broken wheel
The city council voted on Dec. 12, to deny the claim of Joseph Landau, who says the city should pay for damage to his bicycle that it sustained when he rode over a pothole on Pierce Road. According to the claim acknowledgment notice from the Association of Bay Area Governments, Landau was not injured in the accident.
According to Landau, his front bike wheel was damaged when it got caught in a 5-inch-wide by 3-inch-deep crack. The wheel cost $105.87 to replace, according to him.
The city reported it had never been notified of the possible hazard. The city's public works department has since repaired that section of the road, according to public works director John Cherbone.
