Falcons Split

Ramon Patino and Peter Flobecker each scored second-half goals to lead the Saratoga boys' soccer team to an exciting 2-1 win over Los Gatos in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League last week.

The win left the Falcons with a split in the first week of the league season. Saratoga had opened division play by losing a tough 2-1 nod to Los Altos.

The Falcons and Wildcats fought through a scoreless first half, but Patino scored off an Elliott Jones assist, and Flobecker knocked in a goal to lift Saratoga to the victory.

The Falcons, 2-4-1 for the year, lost to the Eagles earlier in the week. Takeo Tomine scored a first-half goal off an Eric Bickenbach assist to send Saratoga in at intermission tied 1-1, but the Eagles broke the tie in the second half with an unanswered goal.

The Saratoga girls, meanwhile, lost a 5-0 nod to Los Gatos in their league opener but came back to beat Los Altos 2-0 a couple of days later. Meghan Miyamoto scored both goals for the Falcons in the win.

Saratoga is 6-2 for the year.
