Women journalists to speak before AAUW

What stories are newsworthy, and how do editors decide which ones to cover? Can new technology enhance our quality of life?

These and other questions will be discussed Jan. 8 by a panel of three women journalists: Dale Bryant, managing editor of five local weeklies and editor of the Los Gatos Weekly-Times; Carolyn Leal, editor of the Saratoga News; and Janet Rae-Dupree, technology writer for the San Jose Mercury News.

They will speak at the monthly meeting of the Los Gatos-Saratoga branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) at 7 p.m. at the Saratoga Adult Day Care Center, 19655 Allendale Ave.

Bryant has been editor of the Los Gatos Weekly Times for the past 312 years. She was recently named managing editor of five weekly newspapers published by Metro in Los Gatos, Saratoga, Willow Glen, Cupertino, and Sunnyvale.

Leal has been a community newspaper editor for over 20 years. She was previously editor of the Cupertino Courier, the Sunnyvale Sun and the Los Gatos Weekly.

Rae-Dupree has worked for the San Jose Mercury News for the past four years. Her special interest is writing about new technology, which may bring dramatic changes in lifestyles.

A question-and-answer period will follow their presentation. Visitors are welcome. For more information, call 867-6237.
