Kenneth Earl Follmar III, 17, a senior at Saratoga High School, was presented with his Eagle badge, Boy Scouting's highest award, at a Court of Honor Dec. 7 in the Saratoga Community Library.
He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 508, led by Scoutmaster Joe Garappolo.
The Eagle rank marks the culmination of six years of Scouting for Follmar. He has spent the last two summers as a counselor at Camp Hi-Sierra, teaching hundreds of Scouts about astronomy, reptiles and shooting. Outside of Scouting, he is an academic mentor at Saratoga High School, where he has a 4.0 grade point average.
He has earned merit badges in a number of areas, including camping, citizenship, communications, emergency preparedness, environmental science, first aid, swimming, safety, family life, astronomy, weather, aviation, oceanography, wilderness survival, forestry, reptile study and soil and water conservation.
Follmar also enjoys working with youngsters in Little League, where he has been an umpire for the past six years.
For his Eagle project, Follmar planned and supervised construction of a 6-foot by 40-inch redwood planting table for kindergarten classes at Saratoga Elementary School. The table is to be used when children study science and nature. This year, they will plant daffodil bulbs.
Kenny is the son of Dr. Kenneth and Debbie Follmar of Saratoga.
