Tradition continues

The tradition of providing Christmas food boxes for Saratoga residents and families on limited incomes has been going on for more than 42 years at the Saratoga Foothill Club.

Names of recipients are found through the Saratoga schools, the Senior Center and two senior affordable housing residences in Saratoga.

It is a community service which draws from many groups other than the Foothill Club. Students from Saratoga schools collect nonperishable foods; the community service wing of Cupertino Salvation Army supplies the poultry. Gene's Quito Market and other food stores and bakeries offer discounted purchases, and Foothill Club members purchase perishables and treats and see the project through to delivery just before Christmas.

Saratoga volunteer firemen work with youth from Saratoga Federated and St. Andrew's churches to deliver the boxes of food.
