    Montalvo gallery will soon re-open

The Gallery at Montalvo, which has been undergoing renovations over the past several months, is scheduled to re-open in January. Among its improvements are a new heating and air conditioning system, new drywalls and more efficient lighting. The newly improved gallery will be unveiled along with its first exhibit for 2002, titled Deborah Orapallo: Works on paper, 1990-2001.

The installation consists of approximately 15 works on paper by Orapallo, a San Francisco artist who is currently exhibiting a mid-career retrospective at the San Jose Museum of Art. She is known for colorful paintings that make the ordinary extraordinary.

The Gallery at Montalvo is at 15400 Montalvo Road in Saratoga. For more information about the gallery or its re-opening, call 408.961.5813.

Rec. dept. plans musical day trip

The Saratoga Recreation Department is taking reservations now for a Feb. 20 trip to the Orpheum Theater in San Francisco to attend the Tony Award-winning Kiss Me, Kate. The musical is Cole Porter's comedic play-within-a-play based on William Shakespeare's classic The Taming of the Shrew.

Before the performance, participants will have a no-host lunch stop in Union Square. Cost is $89 per person; adults of all ages are welcome to attend. Call 408.868.1248 or 408.868.1249 for reservations.

    Host families being sought

The Pacific Intercultural Exchange, a nonprofit educational organization, seeks a few additional host families to open their homes to foreign high school students who will be arriving in early 2002 for a semester of study. All students are between 15 and 18, speak English and have their own spending money and health insurance. They hail from Europe, the Former Soviet Union, Asia, Australia and South and Central America.

Families of all types and sizes are eligible as hosts. The Pacific Intercultural Exchange also has programs available for American high school students who wish to study with host families abroad. Call 1.800.631.1818 for additional information.
