    Foundation gala suports kids

The Mountain Winery Kids' Foundation will hold its second annual New Year's Eve Gala, one of the foundation's main fundraisers which brought in over $20,000 last year, at the winery.

The funds were used to provide grants to local Silicon Valley charities that operate after-school programs for at-risk kids. Last year's recipients included The Boys and Girls Club of Silicon Valley, the Community Learning Center's Science Workshop and the Mexican American Community Services Agency Youth Center.

The gala costs $350 and is open to the public. The cocktail reception will begin in the winery's Chateau at 8 p.m. with dinner and dancing to follow in the historic winery building. For more information, call Nancy Bussani, the Foundation's executive director, at 408.741.2820.

Saratoga school boards choose officers for year

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District and the Saratoga Union School District have chosen officers for the 2000-2001 school year.

On Dec. 12, LG-SJUHSD Superintendent Cynthia Hall Ranii swore in incumbent Jackie Schmidt-Posner, who served as president last year, and incumbent Lorrie Wernick, to serve four-year terms. The same day, at the annual SUSD organizational meeting, John Waite and incumbent Cindy Ruby took their oaths of office to serve four-year terms for the elementary school district.

LG-SJUHSD board members voted unanimously to appoint Schmidt-Posner and Wernick at the Nov. 7 board meeting, since Schmidt-Posner and Wernick were unopposed. Ruby and Waite also were unopposed and were appointed by SUSD board members.

LG-SJUHSD board members elected Wernick as president, Cynthia Chang as vice president, Phil Nielsen as clerk and Ranii as secretary to the board.

For the SUSD, Waite replaced Stan Perry, whose term had expired, and who had chosen not to run. Board members re-elected Stephanie Petrossi as president and Bonnie Yamaoka as clerk. They chose Ruby to replace Aileen Kao as secretary.
