Jenny Miller was on fire.
And it was Cabrillo getting burned.
Miller helped the De Anza Community College women's basketball team scorch Cabrillo 81-64 in a nonconference game last week when she poured in 31 points for the Dons.
Miller, a former Prospect star, had five three-pointers among her 12 field goals to lead the Dons to the easy win.
Kay Jackson pitched in four threes on her way to a 14-point night and Lori Alvarez, another Prospect grad, added nine points.
De Anza, now 7-7 for the year, was coming off of a tough 67-64 loss to Sierra College. Kristie Barnes poured in 25 points to lead all scorers for the Dons. Barnes canned three three-pointers.
Kerri Reese had a three among her 14 points and J. Miller hit a couple of threes and finished with nine.
The Dons will be on their home floor this week to host the De Anza Classic Dec. 27-30 in Cupertino.
The De Anza men, meanwhile, dropped a 73-66 nod to Skyline in nonconference play last week. The Dons slipped to 3-11 with the loss.
Chris Shoemaker had the hot hand for De Anza with an incredible eight three-pointers en route to a 26-point night.
The Dons were coming off of back-to-back losses to Hartnell (69-54) and the City College of San Francisco (69-56).
Shoemaker had 26 points, including five threes, in the loss to CCSF. Nick Glover had a three and finished with 13 points.
Lance Fastusi added four points and Scott Beamish, a Prospect grad, hit a three-pointer.
Farrell Hamann and Glover buried 16 points apiece in the loss to Hartnell.
The West Valley Community College men's team continued to roll in the 1995-96 season with wins over Gavilan (86-48) and Hartnell (66-53). The two wins helped the Vikings improve to 12-2 in the preseason.
Solid 6-foot-8 sophomore forward Bennett Davison pumped in 27 points, including a couple of threes, to lead the Vikings to the easy win over Hartnell.
Taplar Mvogo had a three among his 11 points and Bob Ladine finished with eight. Jacobi Thompson added six points, Derek Mickle and Scott Reeves hit five apiece and Andy Newman popped four.
A game earlier the Vikings poured in 12 three-pointers on the way to a lopsided win over Gavilan.
Mvogo led the Vikes with 19 points, including a couple of threes, and Newman joined him in double digits with 12 points, including three threes.
Will Bigge supported with 11 points and Ladine had three threes to finish with nine. Mickle also had nine points, Jamaal Sanford hit eight, Reeves had seven, Davison and Thompson dropped four apiece and Toby Vares had three. Reeves, Vares, Mickle and Thompson each drained three-pointers.
The Vikings will compete in the Diablo Valley Tournament Dec. 29-30 before opening the Golden Gate Conference season Jan. 3 at home against Cabrillo.
