Depending on the weather, the repaving and widening of Quito Road may be finished before the first week of January ends.
About 10 days of work remain, said Larry Perlin, Public Works director.
The city originally planned to complete the $94,000 project by mid-December, but the same heavy storms that knocked out local power lines stopped the work.
Workers have completed new curbs and gutters along Quito Road between McCoy and Baylor avenues and widened it to accommodate a bike lane. The remaining work includes resurfacing and repainting road markings.
Members of the Sunland Park Homeowner's Association agreed to let the city assess them to pay for the $80,000 landscaping project that will complete the project.
The roadwork is part of the city's yearly $258,000 repair and maintenance program. Repaving is also planned for Vanderbilt Drive, Swarthmore Drive, Clemson Avenue and the intersection of Allendale Avenue and Quito Road.
