The Wildcats opened the year with a tight victory in the Saratoga National Junior Basketball League's Division 3.
Scott Heller's bucket lifted the Wildcats to a tight 26-25 win over the Hawkeyes to open the season. Chris Charles led the Cats with nine points and also was a defensive standout.
A game later, though, Cameron Askew led the Spartans to a 44-28 win over the Cats. Matthew Wright ripped down six rebounds in the loss.
Josh Weger poured in 17 points to spark the Gophers to a 25-17 win over the Wildcats. Danny Wallace led the Wildcats on the boards with seven rebounds.
The Quito Little League will hold signups for the 1996 season on Jan. 9, 11, 23 and 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. each evening, at the Rolling Hills Middle School gym. The league is open to players ages 5-15 living in the West San Jose, Campbell, Los Gatos and Saratoga areas.
The league is also looking for volunteer managers and coaches.

The sixth annual Christmas Baseball Clinic returns to West Valley Community College over winter break under the direction of head baseball coach Mike Perez.
The camp runs Jan. 3-4, 1:30-4:30 p.m. each day, for youngsters ages 7-14. The cost is $65.
The mental and physical aspects of hitting will be covered by Perez and his assistant coach, Burch Buehner. Players must provide their own bats and wear tennis shoes.

The 54th annual San Francisco Sports & Boat Show returns to the Cow Palace Jan. 12-21.
Boats, motors, fishing, hunting, camping and windsurfing will be among the events featured at the show. There will also be a new Giants baseball hall, free trout fishing for children and an air rifle display.
Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children. Seniors will be admitted for half price on weekdays. Doors open at noon on weekdays and 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
