Saratoga NewsNews BriefsCity commission seats still open The Saratoga City Council is still seeking residents to fill two vacancies on both the Finance Commission and the Library Commission. The application deadline for all commissions has been extended to 5 p.m. Jan. 15. Applicants will be interviewed by the City Council after they have attended a meeting of the commission for which they applied. The Finance Commission meets the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. and advises the City Council on the city budget, audits and other topics. Residents with backgrounds in finance are especially encouraged to apply. The Library Commission meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. to discuss issues relating to the Saratoga Community Library, which is a part of the Santa Clara County Library system. Residents with interest or experience in libraries or library services are encouraged to apply. Anyone over 18 years old can apply for the positions. For more information or applications, visit Saratoga City Hall at 13777 Fruitvale Ave. or call the city clerk at 868-1269. Forum scheduled to save trees Residents will hold a meeting on Monday, Jan. 12 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss ways the community can help save the eucalyptus trees of Saratoga School. The meeting, to be held in the Saratoga School cafeteria, is a reaction to the Saratoga Union School District's decision to cut down the trees to make room for basketball courts and playing fields.
